St. Cecilia School is a loving environment that cultivates faith, promotes respect, and praises kindness and caring. Our goal is to foster well-rounded students by offering a variety of co-curricular activities for our students that develop leadership skills and encourage team building, including:
St. Cecilia has a wonderful Physical Education (PE) offering for all students during the school week. We feel our Physical Education program helps with cooperative learning, acceptance of oneself and others, welcomes learning new things through game and sport and builds on a students communication and problem solving skills.
Beyond the in school fitness education, there are informal volunteer led teams for each grade from Transitional Kindergarten-2nd grade and formal competitive team sports offered in 3rd-8th grade.
Parents in grades TK-2nd volunteer to lead class registration and coach for San Francisco based sports programming teams in soccer, basketball and baseball. All interested players are welcome to participate. There are no cuts or skill leveling of teams at this grade level.
The St. Cecilia Parish Athletic Committee can be contacted for inquiries. The St. Cecilia Mother’s club assists with identifying volunteer coaches.
St. Cecilia offers nine competitive team sports beginning in third grade for boys and girls. Our student-athletes play in the Catholic Charities CYO and in Peninsula/Parish School League (PPSL) for Track and Field. Learning a sport, physical fitness, team participation and fair play are areas of focus for our student athletes. Volunteer coaches are focused on providing a fun, positive athletic experience for their teams.
As a community we at St. Cecilia’s believe in the values Catholic Charities CYO adheres to:
“...athletics helps young people integrate their physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual strengths. We believe that sports are not just about the final score but about the formation and dignity of the whole person.”
Similar to guidance for parent-led programming in TK-2nd grade, sports at St. Cecilia’s are inclusive — there are no cuts for Grades 3–8. That said, if numbers allow for more than one team per grade there will be tryouts and student athletes placed on teams based on experience and skill. All student-athletes who wish to join a team are welcome to participate.
